Jacksonville (home) vs. Tampa Bay (away)
Current Records: Jacksonville 4-7; Tampa Bay 4-7
What to Know
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are hoping to patch up the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 30.45 points per contest. They are staying on the road on Sunday, facing off against the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. ET at TIAA Bank Field. Coming off of a win even when the odds were against them, Tampa Bay has to be feeling especially confident now that the spread is in their favor.
Last week, the Buccaneers had a touchdown and change to spare in a 35-22 win over the Atlanta Falcons. WR Chris Godwin was the offensive standout of the matchup for the Buccaneers, as he caught seven passes for 184 yards and two TDs. One of the most thrilling moments of the game was Godwin’s 71-yard TD reception up the middle in the first quarter.
The Buccaneers’ defense was a presence as well, and it made life painful for the QB and embarrassed Atlanta’s offensive line for a total of six sacks. Leading the way was LB Devin White and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, a victory for Jacksonville just wasn’t in the stars as the squad never even grasped a temporary lead. They have to be aching after a bruising 42-20 defeat to the Tennessee Titans. RB Leonard Fournette put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 97 yards and two TDs on 24 carries. Fournette’s performance made up for a slower contest against the Indianapolis Colts two weeks ago. Fournette’s sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.
Tampa Bay’s victory lifted them to 4-7 while Jacksonville’s loss dropped them down to 4-7. A pair of defensive stats to keep an eye on: The Jaguars are second worst in the league in rushing touchdowns allowed, with 15 on the season. To make matters even worse for the Jaguars, the Buccaneers enter the matchup with only 78.7 rushing yards allowed per game on average, good for second best in the NFL. So the Jacksonville squad has its work cut out for it.
